BIOGRAPHY

Karina Siegmund is a German textile artist living and working in Norway. She holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the National Art Academy in Bergen, Norway after studying Textile and Surface Design at the Weißensee Academy of Art in Berlin. Her practice explores the intersection of traditional weaving, contemporary art, technology, and nature, combining craftsmanship with material experimentation and innovative approaches to textiles.

Inspired by the Norwegian coastal landscape, changing light, and natural structures, Karina investigates the expressive possibilities of weaving, exploring the relationship between material, texture, and movement. Her work challenges the boundaries of textile art, bridging traditional techniques with contemporary artistic expression.

She has received the international Talente Award (2012) in recognition of her work, and her textiles are represented in the Norwegian Textile Art Collection, several public state buildings and private collections. Her work has been exhibited in Norway (Nationalgallery Oslo, Vevringsutstilling, Kunsthall Førde Art Museum, Gallery Format Bergen, …) and in countries Lithuania, Portugal, Germany, Belgium.

Through her work, Karina continues to explore new possibilities within contemporary textile art, connecting material, technology, and the world around us.
